Hey guys, this post is super late, but better late than never right? Guess who went to the opening of the latest doughnut franchise in Lagos? That’s right, Me! I took myself out on Saturday 10th of March, to get Krispy Kreme doughnuts at their newly opened store in Ikeja, and I’m super excited to tell you about my experience. Krispy Kreme is a popular american doughnut and coffee brand and they recently decided to extend their market and services to the thriving continent of Africa, and where else would they set up camp if not in the giant of Africa? That’s right, nowhere. They set up their sweet delightful camp right in the city of Lagos, and Lagosians have been ecstatic about it. Let’s get into it.
Krispy Kreme’s newly launched store is located at the Ikeja City Mall (ICM), Alausa. Prior to the store launch, they had successfully pulled off major PR and marketing stunts to create awareness of the brand. They popped in and out of various locations and events (including social media week) to hand out free doughnuts to so many lucky people, for weeks! An estimated amount of the free doughnuts they handed out during that period, might amass to over 10,000 doughnuts. They also had an influencers get-together of some sort, where major influencers in the game, were present and got to sample firsthand the goodness of Krispy Kreme. Now to tell you how successful their marketing game was, they promised to give out free doughnuts and gifts to the first 300 people at the store’s official opening on Saturday, the 10th of March and guyyyy!!!! People queued the night before to be amongst the first 300 on the queue! Some people got to ICM by 6am to be amongst the first 300. Now I love my sleep too much to wake up and go and queue for doughnuts lol, so I just chilled till later in the day to go and it was bliss nonetheless!!!
Immediately I got into the space, some lovely ladies who stood in as ushers welcomed me with greetings and I was given a paper Krispy Kreme hat. Unfortunately I wore a face cap so I couldn’t put it on. Next, I joined the rapidly moving queue for doughnuts and next to where we stood, was a glass wall so I could see the doughnuts being made at the back. It was so glorious looking at doughnuts arranged in rows, coming out from the machine. Some had been glazed so they shone so hauntingly while some were awaiting the glory of being glazed. I got to the counter and a Krispy Kreme attendant attended to me (does that sound weird?), lol. I took a moment to catch my breath and make quick decisions as to what I wanted to order because seeing all the varieties of doughnuts just laying there looking beautiful and sexy was just too much for me! (And she was super helpful, laughing at my antics and all). I made my order and moved to the next counter where I paid and got my drink and then it was time to settle down and enjoy!
The seating arrangements inside, vary from couples seats, to a seat of four, six, eight and to couches. Sadly I didn’t get pictures of the arrangements but you get the idea right? There are also seats arranged outside for those who prefer eating outdoor. I found an empty sit and immediately I settled down, I proceeded to take pictures of my purchase before I dug in. So I got the original doughnut, the New york cheesecake doughnut and the Caramel kreme crunch and I got a chocolate hazelnut flavored frozze. Let me just tell you, those doughnuts are everything! I was super super excited that they lived up to their hype. The Caramel Kreme crunch doughnut had a rough crunchy top and a little surprise in the middle, a delightful patch of pure caramel (my mouth is watering at the thought!) and I wasn’t expecting anything in the middle so when I bite into it and something oozed into my mouth, I was a bit perplexed and then the taste got me and I relaxed. The same thing happened with the New York cheesecake only this time, I was prepared for it! The original doughnut really did melt in my mouth, I have never actually eaten doughnuts so soft! I didn’t enjoy my frozze drink however, because it was so cold (sensitive teeth so brain freeze) and it had a lot going on inside it. I’m sure as a drink on its own, it would be delicious but also because of the sweetness from the doughnuts, I wasn’t able to experience it properly. The price of the doughnuts are very reasonable and totally affordable. However I wasn’t too excited with the prices of the drinks. All in all, Krispy Kreme is here to stay and I am rest assured they would be milking Lagosians of every penny for those delicious doughnuts! They would definitely be seeing more of me as time goes on.
Thanks for reading guys! I hope yoi enjoyed this post. Have you been to Krispy Kreme yet? Let me know your thoughts and your favorite doughnut. Love always ❤
